The American Chamber of Commerce Da Nang Chapter organizes beach clean up, collecting over 2000 kg of waste

May 17, 2023

DA NANG, Vietnam - May 17, 2023 | The American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam Danang chapter, Shilla Monogram Quangnam Danang, and Evergreen Labs co-organized a beach cleanup by Non Nuoc beach. The event, sponsored by Glassia, Coca-Cola, and Shilla Monogram, was held on Saturday, May 13th, in support of promoting environmental consciousness and nature reservation.

The event, focused on removing plastic waste and debris surrounding the beach area next to Shilla Monogram Quangnam Danang, was a resounding success. More than 300 volunteers from various local companies and schools helped collect over 2 tons of mixed solid waste, including styrofoams, fishing nets, plastic waste, and other debris on the shore. The collected waste will then be transferred to relevant collectors for proper treatment and disposal.

“For the past 7 years, our team at Evergreen Labs has been co-hosting beach cleanups with different organizations, and seeing the persisting effort from our community in protecting our environment is heartwarming and encouraging,” said Kasia Weina, Director of Evergreen Labs and Vice Chair of AmCham Vietnam Danang Chapter. “This event showcases the power of unity and how our collaborative efforts can create a lasting impact on our planet.”

Throughout the events, participants were able to learn about the negative impact of leaked waste in our ocean, and were instructed clearly by organizing staff to sort and weigh the collected waste before transferring them to proper waste collectors. In addition to restoring the coastline by clearing litter and plastic waste from the beach, the collective effort from the community serves as a direct environmental impact. The beach clean-up event addressed the harmful effects of plastic pollution on marine life, mitigated risks to public health, and preserved the ecological balance of the area.

“As a member of this community, we are proud to be supporting this beach clean-up event, as it is also our duty to sustain and protect our surrounding environment. We applaud the dedication and the passion of our members and community towards a cleaner and greener Da Nang,” said Christopher Vanloon, Chairman of AmCham Vietnam Danang Chapter.

Through actively participating in preserving the natural beauty of our beaches, the community has made immense progress toward sustaining a vibrant ecosystem. The AmCham beach clean-up event serves as a powerful reminder that with our joint effort, we can bring positive change to our environment.
