Glassia Water's LCA study reveals their reusable glass bottles have the lowest environmental impact compared to most single-use options, highlighting the power of reusability (4 refills outperform single-use plastic) while acknowledging a trade-off in mineral resource use compared to bioplastics.
At Glassia Water, we're committed to providing a refreshing and sustainable way to hydrate. But how does our reusable glass bottled water service compare to other popular options in terms of environmental impact? To answer this question, we partnered with PxP, a leader in sustainability consulting, to conduct a comprehensive Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) study.
The results are in, and they're a resounding win for reusability! Our LCA study found that Glassia's reusable glass bottles boast the lowest environmental impact compared to single-use plastic bottles, bioplastic bottles, aluminum cans, and even one-way glass bottles in five out of six key environmental categories. These categories include:
The Power of Four Reuses
The LCA study also highlights the importance of reusability. Our research shows that Glassia bottles need to be refilled and reused just four times to outperform single-use PET bottles across all environmental impact categories. Here at Glassia, we're proud to report We're proud to reuse our bottles at least 10 reuses per bottle with most bottles being used +30 times, maximizing the environmental benefits of our service.
Transparency Throughout the Lifecycle
While reusable glass is a clear winner, the LCA study also reveals a trade-off. In the category of mineral resource depletion, bioplastics showed a lower impact than Glassia's reusable bottles. This is because glass requires more upfront mineral resources compared to bioplastics, which rely more heavily on agricultural resources.
We view this as an opportunity for continuous improvement. Glassia is committed to transparency and innovation. The LCA results guide our efforts to further optimize our service and minimize our environmental footprint throughout the entire lifecycle, from sourcing to collection and beyond.
Choosing Reusability for a Sustainable Future
The Glassia LCA study paints a clear picture: opting for reusable glass bottles is a significant step towards a more sustainable future. By minimizing waste, reducing our reliance on virgin materials, and prioritizing local sourcing, we can all contribute to a healthier planet, one refill at a time.
